The Aramaic Language of the Zohar

Resources for studying Kabbalah in the original language

About

This site will provide resources for people interested in reading the Zohar, the text at the heart of the Jewish mystical tradition, in its original language, or who are interested in the Aramaic language more generally. It is part of a larger project by Judy Barrett, who is working on a beginner’s textbook and a practical dictionary of the Aramaic of the Zohar, with the support of Justin Jaron Lewis.

Pages on this website:

Blog is the home page and will feature occasional thoughts and updates from the authors and comments from readers.

Basics includes a quick introduction to the Zohar and resources for learning the Aramaic/Hebrew alphabet.

Dictionary (the vocabulary page), Grammar I and Grammar II, and Syntax are the main parts of this website: original documents to help people who have learned the Aramaic alphabet to understand the Zohar.

To Learn More includes links to relevant material elsewhere on the internet, including texts of the Zohar.

Tutoring/Donations is for anyone who wishes to follow up with personal lessons, or support this project.
